We’ve been dangling from the edge of our seat waiting for the incredible-looking Legend of Dungeon Rogue-like to hit the internet, so it’s exciting to hear that an alpha version is now being passed out to the eager, pixel-loving public.
New to this “almost beta” version is the dynamic music system that features over 240 tracks that respond to the on-screen action as you play. The game, as we discovered in our exclusive interview with the husband and wife team that comprises indie studio Robot Loves Kitty, delivers randomized levels that provide a huge amount of replay value, since you never tackle that same game twice.
It’s this reason that the dynamic music function is also included, as it’d be impossible for the developer team to create sounds that fit the environment. By using randomized, responsive tunes, your ears are treated to the same delicious gaming feast as your eyes and fingers. And you certainly will find a lot to dine on here.
The pixel art style is superbly bolstered with single and up-to-4-player multiplayer action, real-time combat and over 50 different items and weapons to help you fight your way through the random dungeons, a ‘Permadeath’ system to add interest to co-op revivals, dozens of different types of enemies, and lots of hats. Yes, hats. Everything is better with hats.
The current alpha test versions are aimed at desktop gamers, but an Android and Oyua version is following soon.
A wonderful return to the classic Gauntlet for the modern gamer, if we dare be so bold as to suggest it. Check out the all-new trailer below, and let us know if you agree.
