In every game developer’s life there’s a special moment, a turning point, when he decides to go beyond merely playing, when he takes his love for gaming to the next level and becomes a creator. Today, realizing this dream has become easier than ever. Let me tell you about ShiVa3D, a game development tool that can help you create your games in no time. A tool that’s easy to learn and yet so powerful and feature-rich that big studios like Chillingo and Ubisoft publish games made with it. A tool that’s truly cross-platform and lets indies port games to any app store they want without changing a single line of code.
Introducing ShiVa 3D
ShiVa3D is widely recognized as the most cross-platform engine in the world, supporting over 16 target platforms including Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows and Windows Phone, Apple OS X, Linux, Adobe Flash, consoles like the Wii, PS3 and the XBox, and many more; ShiVa even has its own web browser plugin. The engine is a true multi-platform beast that’s capable of handling advanced shaders and lighting, physics, HUD rendering, sounds, multiplayer games and more with ease. Once your game is ready, you can transform it through the ShiVa Authoring Tool into a native application for any of the supported platforms with just a few clicks. Multi-platform game development has never been easier!
First-Class Features for Everyone
Being the most cross-platform engine in the world, ShiVa is built around open and cross-platform standards like OpenGL(ES), OpenAL, Collada and OGG Vorbis/Theora, but also supports platform specific ones, such as XAudio2 or DirectX 11. ShiVa can dynamically swap out engine subsystems depending on each target platform, delivering the best features and performance you can hope for on every platform.
ShiVa’s scripting system is based upon an optimized version of Lua, allowing you to create complex behaviors, organized in AI models that can be attached to almost any object in the game world, like adding a little brain to your 3D asset. Starting with ShiVa 1.9, you can also code directly in C, C++ and Objective-C using your favorite programming IDE like Microsoft Visual Studio or Apple Xcode.
ShiVa is a very scalable engine. On the desktop, ShiVa can push up to 15 million triangles per frame easily, and renders directional and omni-directional light sources with multiple dynamic shadows per object and up to 32 lights per surface. The terrain editor creates mega-textured worlds and ships with a gorgeous-looking ocean module. Demanding post processing effects like Depth of Field and Screen Space Ambient Occlusion are included as well.
Nevertheless, we ShiVa Technology developers are also aware that many of our users are targeting platforms that are simply not powerful enough to handle these effects, especially mobile devices. The latest ARM hardware is astonishingly powerful and can handle most shader effects pretty well in OpenGLES 2 mode, but ShiVa can also export your games as OpenGLES 1.1 apps, which means your creations will be playable on devices with weaker graphics chipsets from many years ago.
All these features are just a small peek at what ShiVa has to offer. We recommend everyone downloads our ShiVa Editor Web Edition, which is our free learning package and experience it for yourselves.
